ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 54-year-old Roseville is behind bars for allegedly punching his 72-year-old roommate in the face multiple times causing death after the two got into an argument on Wednesday.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said Mark Newsome was arraigned Thursday, Feb. 2, in Roseville District Court on second degree murder charges stemming from a violent fight that allegedly led to the death of his roommate.
According to the Roseville Police Department, officers responded to the scene of a physical altercation between two men during the overnight hours on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Unconfirmed reports stated the fight occurred at a boarding home in the 7000 block of Waldorf Street.
Police said a 72-year-old man died after being struck in the head multiple times by his roommate, identified as Newsome. According to reports, the two originally began quarreling over food before it escalated into physical altercation.
Authorities did not comment on what started the incident.
Newsome was denied bond at his arraignment. A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14 at 8:30 a.m.
“Our duty is to uphold the principles of the law, and seek accountability for the loss of a life and ensuring that justice prevails for the victim and their grieving loved ones," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
