TROY (WWJ) — A Royal Oak man is in trouble with the law after police found him drunk and slumped over the wheel of his brand new pickup truck, which was heavily damaged.
Shortly before 4 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 Troy police officers were called to the parking lot of 4555 Investment Drive — near Crooks and Long Lake Roads — to do a welfare check on the driver of a 2025 GMC Sierra.
The 911 caller told police the driver was slumped over the wheel and the truck — which had two flat tires and heavy crash damage — had its hazard lights on.
When officers showed up they spoke to the 37-year-old man and noticed his speech was slurred and the truck smelled like alcohol.
The driver failed several field sobriety tests and refused to take a preliminary breath test, so he was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up. There, he took chemical blood alcohol tests, which came back with results of .167% and .165%.
The man, whose name was not released, was issued a citation for operating while intoxicated.
Police did not release any information about the crash that caused the flat tire and damage to the truck.
