ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- The Royal Oak Public Library is back open today after an abrupt weekend closure over concerns about a possible bug infestation in their outdoor book drops.

“The book drops were immediately locked and all items in those book drops were bagged up and isolated in our garage,” read a statement posted by the library on Saturday.

In the latest update Monday, officials with the library said a pest control company inspected all of the returned items. The building and the book drops were also inspected, no insects were found, and the library was cleared to reopen.

The library also said it confirmed that a bug found in a DVD case was a cockroach.

Library officials said they want to make sure residents know that the building receives monthly pest inspections, and they don't want anyone to be worried about bugs when visiting the library.

The library, located on 11 Mile Road at Troy Street, reopened to the public at 1 p.m. on Monday.
