
SALINE (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a Saline woman was found dead in her basement on Friday.
Saline police officers were called to a home in Saline for a welfare check around 2:45 p.m. Friday. After not finding the woman, police began investigating the case as a missing endangered person.
But as more details came to light, the officers went back to the home and found the 49-year-old woman in the basement.
Authorities say the suspect, a 55-year-old Indiana man fled the scene in the victim’s car.
Saline police, along with police and DNR officials in Indiana, eventually tracked down the suspect in Indiana.
He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials did not say where in Indiana the suspect was found.
Authorities have not released the names of the victim or suspect.
Officials say the incident is related to domestic violence and the case remains under investigation.
“On behalf of the Saline Police Department our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” officials said in a press release.
