WARREN (WWJ) -- Santa might have to put himself on the naughty list this year after Michigan State Police tweeted a picture of what looks to be a distracted driving mishap.
The Tweet shows a dashboard photo of a white Volkswagen sedan crashed on the I-696 Service Drive in Warren.
Standing just outside the driver's side door -- sporting a red suit, white beard and round belly -- is Old Saint Nick himself.
Though Rudolph was unavailable for comment, MSP First Lieuenant Mike Shaw spoke with WWJ's Taylor Deitz about the crash that happened Thursday, in the area of 11 Mile Rd. and Norma.
"Santa Claus obviously was checking his list and not paying attention to what was happening in front of him and ended up rear-ending another driver," said Lt. Shaw.
While no drivers -- or reindeer -- were injured, it does appear Santa struck the second vehicle with enough force that the airbags deployed.
Next time, Santa should probably stick to driving his sleigh.
MSP shared the photo to discourage distracted driving during the busy holiday season. Lt. Shaw took the opportunity to remind drivers to slow down, take your time, leave extra distance and don't drive impaired.
"If it can happen to Santa," he said, "it can happen to everybody."
