ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) A school employee in St. Clair Shores is in custody—accused of making a threat against the school.
St. Clair Shores police learned Friday morning, around 7:30, that a threat had been made against Jefferson Middle School.
Security footage showed the employee leaving "multiple handwritten notes" in at least three teacher work areas, according to police.
No more details have been released about the threat itself, although police said it appeared to be an attempt to temporarily close the school.
It's also unclear whether the employee was a teacher or employed in another role at the school.
School officials said they worked with law enforcement to identify the suspect. They also said they felt a lockdown or dismissal of school for the day was not needed.
The employee is on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
This comes amid a rash of threats against metro Detroit schools. More than 80 metro Detroit students, as young as 11, have been charged in connection to threatening their schools since the Oxford shooting.
