DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit Public School police officer has been found guilty of lying to police about being the victim of a carjacking.
On Wednesday a jury found 33-year-old Dajuan Dickerson guilty of false report of a felony and lying to a peace officer.
The charges stemmed from an incident in March 2021.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Dickerson called 911 from the parking lot of a Detroit church around 9 p.m. on March 7, 2021 to report he had been carjacked.
Two months later Dickerson was charged as the Detroit Police Department "found no evidence to substantiate the defendant's claims," according to the prosecutor's office.
The prosecutor's office did not release any further information about the case.
Dickerson's sentencing is scheduled for April 24. The charge of filing a false report of a felony is punishable by up to four years in prison, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.
