ST. JOSEPH (WWJ) -- Authorities are searching Lake Michigan near St. Joseph for a man who fell into the water on Thursday morning.

The situation marked the second person to be swept off the North Pier in less than two hours, after one woman was rescued by her husband.

About 90 minutes later, an 80-year-old man was also swept into the lake.

Local emergency responders were seen on the pier yesterday, boats were in the water, and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was hovering overhead.

Red flags have been flying in St. Joseph, alerting people to stay out of the rough waters because conditions are too dangerous.

Along with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Great Lakes Drone Company, Michigan State Police and dive teams from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department are assisting with the search.
