MUNDY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- This isn't a usual day for firefighters south of Flint.

The Mundy Township Fire Department is working to unload 40,000 pounds, or 20 tons, of almonds from a flipped over semi-truck along US-23 near Thompson Road.

The semi crashed around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. Cleanup crews had to cut the semi's trailer in half so they could unload it, and they are doing so by hand.

Northbound US-23 remains shutdown at Thompson Road. Removal efforts could take up to 3 hours, which means freeway closures could last until at least 1:30 p.m.

The crash also moved a concrete construction barrier wall, but it has been set back up so the road can reopen once it is cleared.

There were no injuries reported in the accident.
