Serious crash involving semi truck, tractor forces closure of US-127 in Clinton County

ST. JOHNS, Mich. (WWJ) - A stretch of highway in Clinton County was closed by police after a collision between a semi truck and a tractor mowing grass along a stretch of US-127 on Thursday morning.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Department described the crash as "serious" to WWJ's Beth Fisher and occurred in the southbound US-127 near St. Johns, Mich. before 9 a.m.

Authorities said a semi tanker truck slammed into the tractor which was on the side of the freeway cutting grass.

Police were closing the road between the north county line and Maple Rapids Road, the department confirmed, and asked drivers to avoid the area.

According to the department, command did request a second ambulance and a helicopter at the scene; the driver of the semi truck was taken to the hospital.
