MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A former Red Robin employee is suing the chain’s Madison Heights location after allegedly finding a razor blade in her food.
Zenarra James said in lawsuit filed on Thursday in Oakland County Circuit Court that she’d been the victim of racial discrimination at the hands of her co-workers, and also alleged a hostile work environment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and direct negligence.
According to Fox2Detroit, the situation began in February when James heard white employees using racial slurs in the restaurant’s kitchen. James then brought the issue to her managers, telling them the language made her “feel uncomfortable.”
After she was later accused of snitching by one of her co-workers, the 26-year-old again alerted management, only to be told that the employee had “anger problems” and she should simply steer clear of him.
Several months later, the problems continued, and James wrote a note asking another co-worker to stop using the inappropriate language, which she then gave to her manager.
The next day after her shift, James was at home eating a chicken salad she had ordered from the kitchen, when she discovered what appeared to be a razor blade.
It was at that point that she quit her position by messaging her general manager over Facebook.
With the lawsuit, which also named Ansara Restaurant Group in Farmington Hills, James is seeking $25,000 for back pay, front pay, and other damages.
