MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Authorities have arrested one person in connection to the murder of an elderly Macomb County women whose body was discovered in her home on Thursday afternoon.
The Shelby Township Police Department said officers along with fire crews were called out to the 14000 block of Stoney Brook W. Drive shortly before 3 p.m. on Oct. 12 on reports of a body found inside a home.
At the scene, the deceased was identified as a 79-year-old woman, who was also the homeowner.
The department did not release the circumstances surrounding the victim's death, but confirmed that officers found it "suspicious."
Detectives worked through the night and by the way of interviews and search warrants, their investigation led them to the arrest of a 41-year-old man from Macomb Township, who was known to the victim.
A warrant for Second Degree Murder was authorized on Friday (Oct. 13) afternoon by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
"More information will be released once the suspect is formally arraigned," Sgt. Mark Benedettini with Shelby PD said in a social media update. "No further information will be released by this department at this point in time."
The 41-year-old man is expected to have a bond hearing on Saturday (Oct. 14) with a formal arraignment tentatively set for Monday (Oct. 16).
