SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) -- A 66-year-old Shelby Township man is jailed after investigators uncovered a massive stash of child sexually abusive in his possession.
According to officials with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the department's MACE unit (Macomb Area Computer Enforcement) got a ttp from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding child pornography being downloaded over the internet.
"Utilizing various investigative techniques," the sheriff's office said, the DHS tip led MACE and Sheriff's Enforcement Team (SET) Detectives to an address in Shelby Township.
Detectives with a warrant searched the home, seizing electronic evidence including laptops, hard drives and thumb drives.
It's alleged that a forensic review of those items then uncovered more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexually abusive material.
The suspect, Michael James Cunningham, was arrested and taken to the Macomb County Jail.
He was arraigned at 41-A Shelby Township District Court last Monday on three counts of Aggravated Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material, and three counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.
Bond for Cunningham was set at $50,000 (10%) cash/surety and his next court appearance was scheduled for June 20.
