ADRIAN, Mich. (WWJ) - A stay-at-home order for residents within a half mile of a chemical manufacturer in Lenawee County was lifted by city officials after a gas release was discovered early Wednesday morning.

Adrian Fire Department authorities told WWJ's Amber McDonald that Anderson Development Company located at 1415 E Michigan St. on the west side of the city experienced a gas release, prompting the shelter-in-place order around 6:30 a.m.

As of 9:15 a.m., the City of Adrian said the threat had been mitigated and the shelter-in-place order had been lifted.

The fire department said their systems were all working and crews were monitoring air levels to make sure it stayed within a safe range.

Officials set up a boundary from Center and Elm Street, Sienna Heights, Parr Hwy. and Beecher. All people living and working in this area were asked to stay inside; the order affected the Lenawee County Fairgrounds and parts of the Sienna Heights University campus.

There is no word on what caused the chemical release at this time.

According to their website, the Anderson Development Company was established in 1968 and works on product development, research and manufacturing to make custom chemicals "help improve the quality of life for our customers while typically reducing the impact to our environment."
