COLFAX TWP (WWJ) -- Police are reminding drivers not to swerve to avoid animals after a teenager rolled his car in mid-Michigan Sunday afternoon.
At around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Mecosta County deputies responded to a single-car accident on 16 Mile Road near Mudlake Rd in Colfax Township, located just east of Big Rapids.
An 18-year-old driver swerved to miss a deer in the roadway and ended up flipping his vehicle. The young man -- identified only as a Ferris State University student -- was taken to a local emergency room with minor injuries.
Colfax Twp. Fire Department and Mecosta County EMS were also onsite to provide assistance.
In the aftermath of this accident -- whose outcome could have been much worse -- Mecosta County Sheriff Miller urged drivers not to swerve around animals and to always wear a seatbelt.
