WARREN (WWJ) -- Three people are in police custody after a shooting, police chase and crash in Warren, which police believe may have stemmed from a possible drug deal.
Multiple shots were fired inside the Marathon gas station on the corner of 13 Mile Rd. and Mound Rd. around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.
The suspects then fled the scene in what authorities say was a white 2021 Chevy Blazer, which police were able to track and chase, according to Dwyer.
"There was a pursuit that went south on Mound to 12 Mile Road, in pursuit of the suspects' vehicle," Dwyer told WWJ's Ryan Wrecker. "The suspects' vehicle collided with the police vehicles, or at least one unit."
After the crash, three suspects were taken into custody and weapons were recovered, Dwyer said. Authorities have not released the names or ages of those arrested. A gun was recovered at the scene of the crash.
In an update, Dwyer said one of the suspects sustained a minor injury in the crash. It did not appear anyone was injured in the shooting.
At the scene of the crash, the suspects were "making statements to the effect that they were at the Marathon" to purchase marijuana, Dwyer said.
Dwyer told WWJ witnesses reported seeing the Blazer at pump 8 before the gunfire, occupied by several people. A Black male in a red shirt was seen entering the SUV, then quickly exiting as gunshots were heard.
That man ran around the gas station to the northwest and was eventually picked up by the Blazer, which fled south on Mound, shortly before the crash with police.
Dwyer noted while the shots were fired inside the gas station, police also found shell casings of multiple calibers next to a black Mercedes-Benz that had been parked next to the Blazer.
“It’s possible that the Mercedes was at the scene to conduct a transaction, probably drugs, with the Blazer, and it’s possible that the Mercedes may have fired shots at the Blazer during the incident," Dwyer told WWJ.
Police are still investigating what exactly happened to spark the shooting.
Authorities did not say whether they believe any suspects are still at large.
