(WWJ) An investigation is underway after a man was shot in a Pontiac bar brawl that reportedly began over a spilled beer.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and EMS responded to the scene at the Grid Iron Bar and Grill, at 98 E. Montcalm Street, just after 2 a.m. Wednesday on reports of multiple people fighting.
As deputies were responding, another caller reported that had been shot and fled to the parking lot of a nearby tire store.
Investigators arrived to find a crowd of 50 to 60 people pouring out of the bar.
Deputies spoke with a server who said an argument broke out between two men when someone spilled a beer. The pair took it outside, where the dispute turned physical, she said, and multiple other people then joined the fight.
That's when the server said she heard 6 to 8 shots fired.
The wounded victim was found in the parking lot of Jimenez Tire Repair, just down the street. He'd been shot in the arm, officials said, but the bullet traveled through and was embedded in this side of his chest.
The man, a 38-year-old resident of Waterford Township, said that after a big fight broke out in the bar parking lot he drew the handgun he was "open- carrying" and fired a shot into the ground.
After than, he said someone in the crowd began shooting at him.
Multiple shell casings were recovered from the victim’s gun, which showed the man fired more than one shot, according to the sheriff's report.
Deputies secured the weapon, and the wounded man was taken by EMS to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
At this time, it's unclear who shot the victim, and no suspects have been described. No charges have been announced in the case.
