Man shot inside department store at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor

(WWJ) A heavy police presence surrounded Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor following a shooting Friday afternoon.

Police searched cars, a police helicopter flew overhead, after the shooting was reported around 3:00 p.m. in the Von Maur Department store.


The mall went into lockdown for a couple of hours while police looked for suspects. Officers cleared the scene around 10:15 p.m.

While police said early on this is not an active shooter situation, people were asked to avoid the area for about 6 hours after the shooting

Ann Arbor Police said one person sustained "non life-threatening injuries." It is believed to be a targeted incident.

FOX-2 reports the victim is 18-years-old. He is in stable condition.

No other details have been released about the relationship between the victim and the suspect, if any. The motive is also unclear.

The mall had returned to normal operations by Saturday morning.
