GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A Michigan State Police trooper fired shots while responding to a robbery at Ulta Beauty at a Livingston County mall, according to State Police.

Green Oak Township Police responded to a report of four women (later determined to be five) filling up a bag of merchandise at Ulta Beauty around 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Ulta Beauty Store is located at Village Place Mall about 15 miles outside of Brighton, just off of U.S. 23 near Lee Rd.

Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers from the Brighton Post were called in to assist. According to State Police, all five of the suspects ran away from the scene with the merchandise. Four of them fled the scene in separate vehicles, while the fifth left on foot.

"One trooper was attempting to take a suspect who ran into custody," State Police said in a release on Twitter. "A vehicle drove directly at the trooper. The trooper fired his weapon..."

The gunfire struck the suspect's vehicle, but not her, according to State Police.

No one was injured.

The suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody after she struck a building, State Police said. All five were eventually arrested.

State Police posted an alert of the shooting around 9 p.m. Thursday, saying there was "no threat to the public."

The mall is home to about 40 stores, including Barnes and Noble and Dick's Sporting Goods, and eight restaurants.

The suspects are lodged at the Livingston County Jail awaiting arraignment for multiple charges including Organized Retail Fraud and Felonious Assault.

The retail fraud will be handled by Green Oak Township Police. The shooting will be investigated by the MSP Third District Special Investigation section.
