SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- While we're not expecting heavy accumulation totals, more snow could cause trouble for drivers in the Metro Detroit area Monday evening

After a snowy morning commute, WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore said it would remain a blustery day in Southeast Michigan, with several rounds of flurries and snow showers expected.

"I do think some heavier snow showers could likely return for the Metro Detroit this afternoon at times," DeVore said. "When they do (drivers should expect) some poor visibility and slick travel with a quick coating."

In an updated Special Weather Statement Monday evening, the National Weather Service said parts of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties could expect to see a snow squall accompanied by winds of 20 MPH, which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than a mile.

Accumulating snow may lead to slippery roads particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. Visibility could be reduced to less than one mile, the NWS said, and drivers should keep in mind that there could be rapid fluctuations in visibility.

Drivers are urged to use caution and account for the variable driving conditions by allowing for extra time to get to where you're going.

DeVore said temperatures are going to stay in the low to mid thirties on Monday; feeling more like the teens and 20s, however, when you factor in the wild chill.

He said Metro Detroiters should expect more flurries and snow showers around Monday night into Tuesday morning, when the low temp will dip to a frosty 21 degrees.

But that may be it for the snow this week.

"I do think we'll ease out of the snow machine here for Metro Detroit by tomorrow afternoon," DeVore said. "Then by Wednesday it's not as cold, some sunny breaks high, getting up to 38 even less chilly. In fact, kind of milder up to 48 to near 50 Thursday before some rain moves in for Friday, with highs in the low 40s."

North of us, however, Michiganders are prepping for a pre-winter wallop.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, parts of the Upper Peninsula are bracing for quite a bit of snow, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for areas in the U.P.

National Weather Service Meteorologist John Voss said this is lake-effect snow, with the highest accumulations expected in Alger, Luce and northern Schoolcraft Counties.

"We have anywhere from 6 to 8 inches, or 6 to 10 inches in our statement," Voss told WWJ's Beth Fisher, early Monday. "But there's probably some areas that could get a foot or more."

Voss said some western U.P. counties could get a little less.
