McMILLIAN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County woman is dead after officials said she was struck by multiple vehicles while snowmobiling in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday.
The Luce County Sheriff's Office said the 55-year-old woman from Chesterfield Township was attempting to cross M-123 from Charcoal Grade on her snowmobile in order to head to Newberry around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 when the incident occurred.
As she turned onto a lane, she was hit by vehicle driven by a 56-year-old Newberry woman traveling north. Investigators said the driver was unable to stop quick enough to avoid collision.
Authorities said the woman was ejected from her snowmobile as a result of the crash and was in the southbound lane when a second vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old Newberry man, hit her.
The driver of the second vehicle told police he did not see the woman in the roadway.
The woman was transported to a local hospital by EMS where she was pronounced dead from her injures. Her name as not been released by authorities.
The sheriff's office said neither alcohol or drug use were contributing factors, but fatal crash remains under investigation at this time.
