INKSTER (WWJ) - Fire crews have subdued flames that erupted at a Wayne County apartment building Tuesday morning, but residents say the complex was "deliberately burnt" in an argument among family members.
WWJ's Ryan Marshall reports most of the fire is out in the Heatherwood Apartment complex caught fire on Michigan Ave. just west of Beech Daly.
While there is no official word on what caused the fire, tenants in the building next door say the blaze was intentionally set.
"Somebody did it, somebody did it," Carla Jefferson told Marshall. "They got the guy....they say the boy got into it with his uncle and they got into a fight, and he went and burnt the apartment building up. Deliberately burnt it."
Several crews with the Inkster Fire Department along with several units from surrounding cities responded to the blaze Tuesday morning and battled to contain the flames for several hours.
Officials said it burned through at least four apartments.
As reported by WXYZ, all residents were evacuated from the building.
Chuck Hubbard, Inkster Fire Department Chief, told WXYZ that one tenant and one firefighter were been taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
There are unconfirmed reports that authorities have arrested the nephew of the man who lived in the complex at a nearby liquor store, but Marshall said he is still waiting to confirm these reports with authorities.
The American Red Cross is at the scene, Marshall reported, taking with residents to see if they need any assistance, financial or otherwise.
This is the second apartment fire in Inkster in the past two days.
This is a developing story. Stay turned to WWJ for the latest updates.
