Soul Train 50th Anniversary Dance Party downtown Detroit Friday night

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Dig your favorite 70s outfit out of your closet, find your dancing shoes, and head downtown Detroit Friday night for a “Soul Train” 50th anniversary celebration.

The Soul Train 50th Anniversary Dance Party begins at 7 p.m. Friday at the Music Hall Amphitheatre.

“Soul Train,” the classic, long-running TV show highlighting soul, R&B and hip-hop music, premiered on Oct. 2, 1971 and ran continuously for the better part of three decades.

Friday’s celebration -- also the final event of the season at the Music Hall Amphitheatre -- will feature classic soul music and dancing. There will be a soul train line, outdoor dance floor, food trucks and games like “Soul Train Scramble Board.”

Large, outdoor TV screens will show highlights from the classic show.

“Our own ‘Don Cornelius’ will be your host and he is going to want to see you boogie. Who knows, you might make it up on the big screen,” a post on the Music Hall website says.

Tickets starting at $20 are available online.
