SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Multiple families living in a Southfield apartment complex are homeless after a fire on Christmas morning.

The fire took place at Radius Apartments and Townhomes on Walden Road, near 10 Mile and Telegraph Road.

The Southfield Fire Department arrived on the scene within 5 minutes of receiving the call. Five townhouses were “fully involved,” the Southfield Police Department said.

Two people were injured. One person received treatment on scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital.

“We are so thankful and grateful that no lives were lost this Christmas Day,” Southfield Fire Chief, Johnny L. Menifee said. “This is another stark reminder of why working smoke detectors are so important.”

The complex was deemed a complete loss. Authorities are working to find temporary housing for families that were displaced by the blaze.

Along with the Southfield Fire Department,  the Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Madison Heights, Royal Oak, West Bloomfield and Redford Twp. fire departments helped with the two-alarm fire and answered additional calls within Southfield.

The cause is still under investigation.
