SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A Southfield firefighter has been taken to the hospital after he was injured while battling a house fire that had flames shooting 50 feet into the air.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. Thursday in a home along the Lodge Freeway service drive near Nine Mile Rd.
The firefighter who was hurt was taken to Providence Hospital, but is expected to be OK, officials said.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ Newsradio 950's Luke Sloan said the house appeared to be vacant, but fire crews found there was a squatter inside.
The fire is now out, but the home appears to be a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
