SOUTHGATE (WWJ) -- A beef between neighbors over noise led to a shooting in a Downriver community, according to police.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Southgate Police officers responded to a home on Kerr Street off Northline Road, on a reports of shots fired.

Police said investigators found the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute over noise.

It's alleged that a man in his 60s "unprovokingly" shot at the victim — a neighbor in his mid-20s — several times while he was inside his home.

After the shooting, police said the suspect barricaded himself inside his own home, but surrendered to members of a SWAT team after a brief standoff.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said the suspect was drunk at the time of the shooting. His name has not been released as he remains in custody, awaiting charges.

Police did not release further details regarding the noise complaint, or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
