INKSTER, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man is hospitalized after crashing his car into a school in Inkster early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say the man was speeding in his car near Inkster Road and Avondale Street around 3:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. The car took out a road sign before going airborne, flipping and crashing into the American International Academy Middle School.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to a hospital, the school's superintendent, Thomas White, told WWJ's Charlie Langton. White said he was told the driver initially did not have a pulse, but the man's condition is unknown. The driver was the only person injured in the crash.
The crash left a large hole in the school that crews were working to board up Tuesday morning.
Classes were not interrupted, as the school's roughly 700 students are learning remotely online.
Inkster police are still investigating what may have led to the crash.
