(WWJ) — A missing elderly St. Clair County man has been found dead after drowning in Anchor Bay.
The St. Clair County Dive Team was called out Monday evening to help Clay Township police search for a 78-year-old man who had been reported missing around 4:30 p.m.
The dive team went to the man's home, where they found a broken dock board, along with other indicators that he may have entered the water.
Divers went into the nearby canal and despite the inclement weather, found the man quickly, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Drownings are an especially tragic event, for the victim, their family, and the responders. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family during this time," Sheriff Mat King said in a press release.
Clay Township police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent drowning.
The man's name has not been released.
