FORT GRATIOT (WWJ) -- Just four months after his release from a prison, a Metro Detroit man who served four years for child pornography has been convicted a second time and sentenced to another 10 years behind bars.
In a Friday press release, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison and Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Office of Homeland Security Angie Salazar said that 34-year-old Jacob Jeffrey Baron -- a repeat offender -- will serve 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
The Fort Gratiot man admitted in court that he had uploaded photos of children engaged in sex acts to the cloud storage service Dropbox.
Federal agents later found nearly 200 of these images on Baron's cell phone.
Authorities said the defendant was already under close supervision at the time of the offense because he had just been released from a four-year prison sentence for the same crime.
Special Agent Salazar gave her assurances that Homeland Security will continue to investigate and prosecute anyone involved with child pornography, calling recidivist offenders a "clear and present danger to our communities and our children."
"Every time an image of child sexual abuse is downloaded or viewed it is a revictimization for the child involved," said Ison, who made it clear that repeat offenders will continue to receive harsh penalties.
