(WWJ) A 32-year-old St. Clair Shores woman has been sentenced to two years of probation and weekend jail time following the fatal hit-and-run death of a pedestrian last fall.
Stephanie Holt entered a no-contest plea on July 15, 2026, to the charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death when at fault.
On Tuesday, a Macomb County Circuit Court judge ordered Holt to serve 365 days in the Macomb County Jail, structured as 100 consecutive weekends starting on Friday, September 25.
Holt was also ordered to complete 200 hours of community service, attend counseling, and have no contact with the victim’s family.
The charge stems from an incident on November 1, 2025, when St. Clair Shores Police discovered the body of 76-year-old Mary Hulswit at the foot of a driveway.
Investigators determined Hulswit died from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle while Holt was backing out of her driveway.
Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido emphasized that drivers must remain at the scene of an accident.
"This defendant will have time to consider her choice of leaving when she should have called for help," Lucido said in a statement, adding: "Our thoughts remain with the family as they continue to live with a loss that can never be undone.”
