HANDY TWP. (WWJ) — A suspect has been arrested for the murder of his roommate in Livingston County early Friday morning.

The 35-year-old Howell man is behind bars and Michigan State Police officials say there is no threat to the community.

Troopers were called to the home on Sargent Road in Handy Township, near Fowlerville, around 1 a.m. after a resident of the home called 911 to report he had heard what appeared to be an argument between two roommates who lived in the basement.

When he went downstairs to check on them, he found the 57-year-old Fowlerville lying on the floor with injuries and the suspect had fled the home. The victim was pronounced dead at the home,

Troopers used a K-9 and Livingston County Sheriff's deputies to try to track down the suspect. Just before 2:30 a.m. a nearby resident on Millett Road called 911 to report someone was pounding on their door.

Deputies went to the home and took the Howell man into custody.

MSP officials said at this time they are not releasing the cause of death or what, if any, weapons were used.

Anyone who knows something about the death is asked to call the Brighton Post at 810-227-1051.
