TROY (WWJ) — A Sterling Heights man has been charged with being "super drunk" at the time of a three-car crash in Troy last week.

It happened in the area of John R and Big Beaver around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, according to Troy police.

While police haven't released many details about the crash itself, officials say responding officers spoke to two of the drivers involved who said they had minor injuries.

When they went to speak to the third driver, a 62-year-old man from Sterling Heights, they noticed his speech was slurred and he smelled like alcohol. After failing several field sobriety tests, he blew a .22% BAC on a preliminary breath test.

The man was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up, where further breath tests had results of .26% and .27%, more than three times the legal limit.

He has been charged with operating with a BAC of .17% or more and failing to stop in assured clear distance.

Authorities did not release the man's name.
