(WWJ) A Sterling Heights man is facing charges after police say he evaded capture twice — but not a third time — in a stolen vehicle.
On Monday, Southfield Police officers tracked down a stolen Dodge Ram pickup truck with two men inside who were identified as suspects in a multi-jurisdictional theft ring in Oakland and Wayne counties.
Two weeks ago, Southfield Police had tried to stop the same pair in the stolen truck, but they were able to get away when officers ended the chase due to concerns about public safety. And on an earlier date, police said, the suspects were able to escape after a chase and crash into a patrol car in Dearborn.
As Southfield officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle again, the driver — 22-year-old Coreyion Deshon Perdue-Duckett — again attempted to flee, police said.
He was trying to pull out of a parking lot onto Southfield Road when officers made "intentional contact with the stolen truck" police said, preventing escape, and Perdue-Duckett and his passenger were arrested.
From inside the truck, officers recovered several pieces of stolen property — including electronics and a stolen license plate, police said. Officers also found two guns in the truck: a semi-automatic pistol and an AR-15 pistol, under a floorboard and the driver's seat.
Perdue-Duckett is charged with the following: Fleeing and eluding police - third degree, assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and driving with license suspended or revoked.
He was arraigned in 46th District Court on Wednesday and ordered held on a $2,000 cash/surety bond.
Perdue-Duckett's passenger, whose name was not released, was not charged. No charges were announced in connection with the alleged theft ring as that investigation is ongoing.
