Sterling Heights man on motorcycle is killed in crash with SUV on I-75, freeway back open after several hours

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A motorcyclist from Macomb County is dead after an early morning freeway crash in Detroit.

Northbound I-75 was closed for several hours at the Lodge Freeway during the Thursday morning rush, as police investigated the incident.

Michigan State Police said troopers responded on scene, just after 2 a.m. where a motorcycle driver was rear-ended by a Chevy Trailblazer, near Grand River Ave.

MSP said the motorcyclist lost control and crashed, and the Trailblazer driver also lost control and rolled over.

The motorcyclist, since identified as a 30-year-old Sterling Heights resident, was taken to a hospital where he as pronounced dead. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

The Trailblazer driver, identified as a 20-year-old Warren man, declined medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.

The freeway has since reopened.
