TROY (WWJ) -- A Sterling Heights man is expected to face a drunken driving charge after an incident at a park in Troy last week.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, Troy Police responded to Flynn Park on South Blvd. on reports of a possible drunk driver.

Callers said they witnessed a person in a 2021 Chevy Blazer driving recklessly in the parking lot, and almost crashing into other vehicles.

The driver was then reported to have fallen asleep behind the wheel, police said.

When officers arrived, they located the suspect, identified as a 70-year-old man from Sterling Heights.

While talking with him, officers "noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person," according to the police report.

Police said the driver "was too intoxicated to attempt any sobriety evaluations," but did agree to take a breathalyzer test which showed his BAC was .285%. That's over three times the legal limit to drive in Michigan.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Troy Police lock-up, where he was read his Chemical Test Rights and submitted to a blood test. His blood was drawn by medical personnel, and the case was turned over to the Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the results come in.

The man's name was not immediately released.
