DETROIT (WWJ) – A man accused of breaking into an elderly Detroit woman’s home and sexually assaulting her has turned himself in to police.
Shortly after tweeting out a renewed plea for rips, Detroit police officials said Thursday the suspect in last week’s attack surrendered and is now in police custody.
Authorities have not released the man’s name or age.
Police had been searching for the suspect for more than a week after the attack, which happened on June 20.
Around 10:15 a.m. that day, the suspect entered the 78-year-old woman’s home on Lodewyck near Chandler Park and Moross on the city’s east side.
Officials said when the woman confronted the suspect, he physically assaulted her, pushed her to the floor and pulled over pants.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Authorities had released surveillance images of the suspect, who was wearing a red jogging suit with white stripes down the side.
Officials did not say where the suspect surrendered and it was not clear what charges he may be facing.
