SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — Three people are in custody following a Friday morning police chase that ended with a crash on the Southfield Freeway.

It all unfolded shortly before 10 a.m. when Southfield police officers spotted a Kia Sorrento that was wanted for a felony out of the city of Detroit.

Southfield police officials say the car’s license plate had been entered into a law enforcement database by the Detroit Police Department on Monday, Feb. 17. No other information about that prior crime was released.

Southfield officers tried to stop the car in the area of 9 Mile and Southfield Roads, but the driver disregarded police and fled from the officers, officials said.

After the chase entered the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway from Evergreen Road, an officer “made intentional contact” with the suspect’s car, ending the chase near the entry ramp, according to police.

There were three people inside the wanted vehicle, including the driver — a 30-year-old from River Rouge — who was arrested for fleeing and eluding. The others inside were from Detroit and Southgate, but authorities did not say what charges, if any, they will face.

There were multiple minor injuries reported as a result of the crash, according to police.
