Juvenile suspect arrested after stealing vehicle with sleeping baby inside, crashing into cars in Chesterfield: cops

Police said the suspect led them on a 100mph chase from Marysville into Macomb County

PORT HURON (WWJ) -- A young suspect is in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle with a 1-year-old baby asleep in the back seat.

According to Port Huron Police, the suspect stole the vehicle at around 9 p.m. Thursday, in the area of Pine Grove Avenue and Hancock Street.

A Marysville police officer spotted the stolen vehicle on I-94 near Gratiot Ave. and tried to pull the driver over, but he took off speeding.

There was a chase, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph, police said.

The police pursuit eventually came to an end when the suspect crashed into multiple parked cars off of 21 Mile Rd. near Sugarbush Road in Chesterfield Township.

The child wasn't hurt in the crash, and was recovered unharmed, police said.

The juvenile suspect was arrested and was booked in the Macomb Juvenile Detention Facility where he awaits charges. Police did not say exactly how old he is.

The Port Huron PD said, in a statement: "We want to thank the Marysville Police Department, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, and Chesterfield Township Police Department for their swift response and teamwork in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe resolution."
