Man in critical condition after gunfire erupts outside Southfield hotel, suspect in custody

A suspect accused of an carrying out a non-fatal outside a Southfield hotel early Wednesday morning has been arrested, police say.

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A suspect accused of an carrying out a non-fatal shooting outside a Southfield hotel early Wednesday morning has been arrested, police say.

The Southfield Police Department told WWJ's Mike Campbell that they took an Oak Park resident into custody just before 6:45 a.m., several hours after a shooting victim was reported in the parking lot of the Radisson Hotel located at off Telegraph Road, just south of the Lodge Freeway.

Authorities responded to the hotel at apporximently 2:21 a.m. and located the victim, identified as a 25-year-old Detroit man, with a gunshot wound.

Police, along with fire and rescue personnel, provided life-saving measures at the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Campbell reported that the Southfield police were not only investigating at the Radisson Hotel, but that officers were seen canvassing the area just south of that is a Sunoco gas station and collecting evidence on Telegraph and on the ramp from M-10.

"They were collecting evidence as early as maybe 45 minutes ago or an hour ago..." Campbell said. "Police haven't said yet whether it was a road rage incident, but that's the indication from what we can tell."

The circumstances that led up to the shooting continue to remain unclear. Police have not released any other information as the investigation continues.
