A suspect, who led several police departments on a chase throughout Oakland County, has been captured.
"SUSPECT IN CUSTODY" was the message posted on the Oakland County Sheriff's Department Facebook page Friday morning.
The Lyon Township man, 56, was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Friday after deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person near the 1800 block of North Milford Road.
Deputies recognized the individual as the suspect who had fled earlier and took him into custody without incident, the Sheriff's Department said in a statement released Friday afternoon.
The suspect was taken to McLaren Oakland for medical clearance before he went to the Oakland County Jail.
The incident started just before 7 p.m. Thursday when a Be On the Lookout alert from Livingston County was broadcast for a driver who had fled from a traffic stop and was suspected of operating a vehicle while under the influence of crack cocaine and alcohol.
The possibly impaired driver was in a white GMC Sierra traveling eastbound through the township, according to the Green Oak Township Police Department.
Officers located the vehicle in the area of Dixboro Road and Eleven Mile Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the man wouldn't stop and continued into Oakland County.
Out of concern for public safety, officers terminated the pursuit in Oakland County, Green Oak Township police said in a statement.
An Oakland County deputy spotted the suspect near South Hill Road and Eleven Mile Road in Lyon Township and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and continued driving at relatively slow speeds into Milford Township.
Milford police got involved in the chase and during the pursuit the suspect rammed two Wixom Police Department police cars. When Oakland County deputies resumed their pursuit, the suspect hit a deputy's car. No serious injuries were reported.
As the suspect neared Hickory Ridge Road and Rose Center Road a deputy performed a Pursuit Termination Technique maneuver to end the chase. However, the driver ran into a wooded area and pond.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office activated the Search and Rescue Team, K-9 Unit and Drone Team to assist with the search, which ended without finding the man, who had ended up being arrested several miles away near Milford after a tip was called in about a suspicious person.
"When you have an individual, through intentional and reckless behavior, put other drivers and the community at risk, he must be held accountable," Sheriff Mike Bouchard said in a statement. "I always appreciate the teamwork displayed by our law enforcement partners as we work together to protect the public."
Investigators are seeking multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing a police officer, felonious assault of a police officer, operating while license revoked, and other traffic-related offenses.
The suspect's name hasn't been released.
