MACOMN TWP. (WWJ) -- Authorities continue to search for a suspect in the shooting of a businessman, ambushed in his own driveway Tuesday morning in Macomb Township.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it's seeking information to help identify the person caught on camera shooting at Eddie Jawad, outside his home on 24 Mile Road, in the area of Foss and North Avenue.
Video shows a man in dark clothing walking through a neighbor's yard at 9:30 a.m., trying and failing to climb the wall into Jawad's yard. He then waits for about 45 minutes — hiding between two parked cars in Jawad's driveway.
When the 61-year-old Jawad came outside to leave for work, at around 10:18 a.m., the suspect started shooting. Jawad shot back, and the suspect fled the scene.
Detailed in a MCSO news release Thursday, the suspect was seen by witnesses/video surveillance in the area of 24 Mile Rd. and Wellington Valley Drive at approximately 8:22 a.m. Prior to the shooting, at approximately 9:30 a.m. the suspect is seen on home video surveillance entering the victim’s yard.
After the shooting, the suspect returned to a black SUV parked on Wellington Valley Drive and fled east on 24 Mile Rd.
The suspect is described as a thin black male, approximately 5’6” to 5’8”.
The MCSO said the suspect vehicle is a black Ford Escape, model year 2020-2022.
A stolen plate was affixed to the Escape at the time of the shooting, officials said.
Jawad was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and released.
As the investigation continues, anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the MCSO Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
