State Police: Suspect fatally shot during police pursuit involving stolen vehicle west of Lansing

MULILKEN, MICH. (WWJ) A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting west of Lansing.

Michigan State Police say an Ionia County Sheriff’s deputy was pursuing a stolen vehicle in Ionia County around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The pursuit ended with a traffic stop in Eaton County in the rural village of Mulilken, with a population of about 500 people about 30 miles west of Lansing, according to police.

It happened on the village’s main street, Charlotte.

“At the end of the pursuit, there was some kind of collision, and a shooting took place,” a statement from State Police read.

The man driving the stolen vehicle died on scene. His identity is currently unknown.

The deputy had been with the Sheriff’s Office for two years. He was not injured.

State Police are still probing into the exact circumstances leading up to the shooting.
