Suspect identified after man is hit by car, found dead in the street in Mount Clemens: sheriff

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) -- Authorities are investigating in Mount Clemens after a pedestrian was found dead in the roadway overnight.

Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office shut down southbound Gratiot Ave. at Market Street, where the injured man was found just after 4 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff's office said an off-duty Clinton Township Police officer was first on the scene and was doing CPR, but the man was pronoucned dead.

In an afternoon update, the sheriff's office said an investigation found that the pedestrian was hit by a vehicle while in the roadway. Officials added that the suspect vehicle, and a suspect, have since been identified.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect was in custody.

No further details about the victim or the suspect have been released, as an investigation by the MCSO is ongoing.
