One suspect in custody after shots fired in road rage incident in Canton Walmart parking lot, police say

CANTON (WWJ) -- A Wayne County man could face charges in connection with a shooting Friday morning outside a Walmart store in Canton.

Canton Police responded just before 8:30 a.m. on April 24 to a report of shots fired in the Walmart parking lot on Michigan Ave.

At approximately 8:27a.m. this morning, the Canton Police Department got a call about shots fired in the parking lot of the Walmart store at Michigan Ave. and Belleville Rd.

Officers responded to the scene, and quickly located two people who were allegedly involved in the incident.

Police said a preliminary investigation found there was a road rage dispute between the two people. The situation then escalated in the parking lot, where shots were fired.

A 29-year-old Van Buren Township man was arrested.

Police said in a news release that no injuries were reported, adding that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The name of the person in custody was not immediately released.

Police said the case will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review and potential charges.
