
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) A suspect is in custody in connection to the non-fatal shooting of two teens in Hamtrack, according to police.
Police have also seized the gun believed to be used in the shooting, Chief of Police Jamiel Altaher said in a statement.
According to police, the shooting happened in the evening of Monday, April 28, at the intersection of Circle Drive and Grand Haven within the Colonel Hamtramck Homes. That's near I-75 and the Davison.
Police said a 17-year-old girl was shot in the head. A 16-year-old was also shot. Both are expected to survive, according to officers.
"The community can rest assured that the cycle of violence can be broken. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well being of our residents and will tirelessly pursue anyone who seeks to harm and disrupt the community's peace," Altaher said in the statement. "We are here to keep you safe-It’s what we do."
No further information was released on the suspect's identity, or relationship to the victims, if any.
