EASTPOINTE (WWJ) A man disguised himself as a woman and shot his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend in Eastpointe, police said.
Eastpointe Police said their officers were called to a commercial area on 9 Mile near Gratiot for a shooting complaint on Friday, January 3rd around 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a victim with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Police learned the victim was in a relationship with the suspect's ex-girlfriend and the suspect was "highly unhappy about it," investigators said.
The suspect approached the victim disguised as a woman—in a wig, tight pink pants, and a black jacket. They spoke for a while.
According to police; the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot, striking the victim in the chest.
The suspect ran away "out of the view of security cameras", police said.
Eastpointe Police Detective Bureau and Special Investigation Unit identified the suspect and his location. They executed a search warrant on his home on Albion—in the area of McNichols and Hoover—on Detroit's east side.
Police said the suspect fired one round at officers while they tried to enter the house. None of them were struck by the gunfire. Officers, who were on the front porch, did not return fire "because they did not have a clear view of the suspect." Officers negotiated with the suspect to surrender.
They took the suspect and his girlfriend into custody.
The victim is expected to "make a full recovery," police said.
An investigation report will be submitted to Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review.
"Eastpointe Police Department wants to commend the officers on scene who demonstrated tremendous restraint and trigger discipline under immense pressure," the Eastpointe Police press release read. "The Eastpointe Police Department also wants to thank Detroit PD for a quick response to assist once the suspect fired at officers."
