(WWJ) — Two suspects are in custody after a break-in at a Monroe County home early Tuesday morning.

One of the suspects is hospitalized after a resident shot him with a crossbow during the home invasion.

It all happened around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at a home on Huron Street in Frenchtown Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Two people were home when the suspects broke in, according to the sheriff's office. One of the residents shot one of the suspects with a crossbow during the incident, which sent both suspects running.

Responding deputies found both of the suspects nearby, including the 32-year-old Newport man who had been wounded by the crossbow. He received medical attention at the scene and was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The suspect remains in custody while receiving medical care.

The other suspect, a 41-year-old man from Newport, is being held at the Monroe County Jail.

Both suspects' names are being withheld, pending formal arraignment. Authorities have not said what charges the pair may face.

The sheriff's office says the home invasion "is not believed to be a random act of violence, as the incident appears to stem from a prior altercation." The suspects and victims knew each other before the incident, but authorities did not say how.

With the investigation still ongoing, authorities are asking anyone who knows something about the crime to contact detectives at 734-240-7530.
