CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) -- One person is dead after an attempted robbery and shooting at a donut shop in Macomb County.
The Clinton Township Police Department said its officers responded at around 12:45 p.m. Thursday to a call about an armed robbery in progress at Golden Donuts, located at 34155 Harper Ave., near Quinn Rd.
Police said an investigation found that the suspect, a man in his 30s, walked into the shop holding what appeared to be a gun, and demanded cash.
That's when police said an employee of the business pulled out a gun and shot the suspect.
The suspect ran off, but was found by police a short distanced away.
EMS responded and transported the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a news release, detectives interviewed the employee at the Clinton Township Police Department, and they were released pending further investigation.
It's unclear if any charges could be filed in this case.
Police were still on the scene after 3 p.m., and said this remains an active investigation.
