Suspect who fatally shot woman in Albion called 911 on himself, waited for police: cops

A man accused of fatally shooting a woman in Albion was arrested by police after he called 911 on himself and waited at the scene for authorities to arrive.

ALBION (WWJ) - A man accused of fatally shooting a woman in Albion was arrested by police after he called 911 on himself and waited at the scene for authorities to arrive.

The Albion Department of Public Safety said the Calhoun County Dispatch Authority received a call around 7:15 p.m. on March 23 from a man who claimed he shot a woman inside a home in the 500 block of West Broadwell Street.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived to find the suspect waiting for them.

Authorities said police discovered the body of a 50-year-old Albion woman in a bedroom with a fatal gunshot wound. The suspect, identified as a 51-year-old man also of Albion, surrendered to officers and was taken to the Calhoun County Jail.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and a motive behind the shooting remained unclear on Friday.

Authorities have not released the relationship between the victim and the suspect -- their identities remain unknown at this time.
