13-year-old bicyclist dies after failing to yield in Clinton Twp crash

CLINTON TWP (WWJ) -- Clinton Township police are close to concluding their investigation into a fatal traffic crash in which a 13-year-old on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, on Clinton River Road at Ammerst Drive.

As young Jaden Ryan Collins crossed Clinton River Rd on his bike, he was struck by a black 2019 Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Kia immediately stopped, attempted to provide first aid to Collins and remained at the scene while police investigated.

The young boy was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

In a press release on Monday, Clinton Twp Police said that Collins had failed to yield to oncoming traffic and that the driver of the Kia was not at fault.

Police also found no sign that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

The investigation is still ongoing. Clinton Twp Police ask that any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information about the crash, call the police department at 586-493-7802 and/or Lieutenant C. Allis at 586-615-2525.
